“Awakening memory” through music and wine

The writer and wine critic for Robert Parker’s publication ‘The Wine Advocate’, Luis Gutiérrez, will conduct a master tasting as ‘Maquinista del Año’ of La Cata del Barrio de la Estación in Haro on 14 June, the day before the great wine and food event promoted by the wineries of this historic enclave CVNE, Bodegas Bilbaínas – Viña Pomal, Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta S.A., Muga and Bodegas RODA. Their proposal is a musical tasting “different and fun in which to do a bit of ‘Rock and Wine'”, travelling back in time to the 60s. The experience can be enjoyed by purchasing an exclusive ticket, which will also allow access to the subsequent cocktail party with different wines from the wineries CVNE, Bodegas Bilbaínas-Viña Pomal, Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta S.A., Muga and Bodegas RODA.

I like to say that the tasting I will conduct is a journey back in time through seven decades, with its olfactory, sonorous and visual memories.

We will see the evolution of the style of the wines and how they also evolve in the bottle.

The main objective is that people can enjoy a different perception of the wines, putting themselves in the moment of their harvests.

A passionate lover of wine, its landscapes and its people

Luis Gutiérrez (Ávila, vintage 1965) confesses to being “a wine madman”. Wine has ended up occupying his whole life. This passion for wine, which has fuelled his travels and friendships, led him to co-found and collaborate in El Mundo Vino, since its creation in 2000, and to be the Spanish wine correspondent for the British Jancis Robinson, which earned him the National Gastronomy Award for Journalistic Work in Spain in 2012. Thanks to this extensive knowledge and background as a taster, he became the wine critic for the wines of Spain, Chile, Argentina and the Jura, in France, for Robert Parker’s publication ‘The Wine Advocate’, part of the Michelin Group, for which he has been writing and tasting since 2013.

He contributed to ‘1001 wines to try before you die’ (Grijalbo) and is co-author of ‘The Finest Wines of Rioja and Northwest Spain’ (Aurum Press and University of California Press), published in the UK, US and Japan in 2012, for which he won the André Simon Special Commendation Award.
