Seven of the most emblematic Spanish wineries in the world open their doors for the great Rioja wine and gastronomy festival.
Haro, September 2016 – The 2nd edition of La Cata del Barrio de la Estación will take place on Saturday 17 September. Wine lovers, lovers of Rioja gastronomy and all those who come to the Barrio de la Estación will be able to enjoy a festival that opens the doors of seven great wineries of La Rioja: La Rioja Alta, S.A.; López de Heredia Viña Tondonia; Muga; Bodegas RODA; CVNE; Bodegas Bilbaínas and Gómez Cruzado. An opportunity to visit the Barrio de la Estación, the birthplace of Rioja wine.
Tickets can be purchased on the website www.lacatadelbarriodelaestacion.com for €50 (€40 in advance). Access includes the tasting of 14 wines (2 per winery), 7 Rioja tapas, various wine-related activities in each of the wineries and live music to enjoy this great event.
The wines to be tasted are:
- La Rioja Alta, S. A.: Gran Reserva 904 2005 and Viña Ardanza 2007.
- López de Heredia Viña Tondonia: Viña Tondonia Tinto Reserva 2004 and Viña Bosconia Tinto Reserva 2005
- Bodegas Muga: Muga Reserva Selección Especial 2011 and Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2004
- Bodegas RODA: RODA 2011 and RODA I 2009
- CVNE: Asua Crianza 2012 and Cune Reserva 2010
- Bodegas Bilbaínas: La Vicalanda Reserva 2010 and Viña Pomal Rosado 2015
- Bodegas Gómez Cruzado: Gómez Cruzado Blanco 2015 and Honorable 2012
The Barrio de la Estación is a unique wine tourism destination in the world that can be visited all year round, as its doors are open 365 days a year. However, this is a unique and very special occasion to visit all seven wineries in one day, enjoying a wonderful celebration: La Cata del Barrio de la Estación.
The 1st edition of this great festival, held in September 2015, brought together more than 5,000 people, offering a unique experience that was recognised with the “Best of” award for the best wine tourism initiative granted by the international network of great wine cities “Great Wine Capitals”.
Day for professionals
The day before La Cata del Barrio de la Estación, a professional day will be held, attended by prestigious chefs and sommeliers together with members of the national and international wine press.
Pedro Ballesteros, the only Spanish Master of Wine, will be the Maquinista of the Year, collecting the award received by Tim Atkin in the previous edition. For the occasion, he will lead an unprecedented Master Class together with the winemakers of the seven wineries. This will be an interactive and unrepeatable tasting en primeur where you can learn about the origin and secrets of blended wines, always characteristic of the Barrio and which form part of the genesis of today’s Rioja wines.
